Gearbox Software is seeking an experienced game designer who specializes in Unity to join us in developing a Unity based action game. We are largely an Unreal focused studio, but we are excited to grow our small internal Unity team. Ideal candidates will be excited to work in a small team environment to design, implement, and balance new weapons, enemies, and abilities for the game. We are looking for experienced game designers familiar with Unity and it's development pipeline. We are looking for people who deeply understand Unity systems development and have a passion for game design to help us grow our team organically as we create new projects.  If you're a Unity expert who is looking for a fresh start growing a small team, we'd love to hear from you. This position is open to full time remote work in certain approved states.

Responsibilities:

  • Create expansion content for a previously released multi-platform title
  • Maintain good communication with other departments and stakeholders, and teach others best practices when working inside Unity, suggesting improvements to our pipeline as we grow.
  • Help studio leadership grow and staff a Unity development team to take on more projects
  • Work closely with internal focus testing, community management, and other sources of player feedback to maintain and expand the online community surrounding the game

Qualifications:

  • A Game Design portfolio demonstrating their work, preferably with videos, screenshots, or supporting documentation regarding their workflow, thought processes, and contributions to projects
  • Deep knowledge of Unity  and the Unity development pipeline
  • Core understanding of solid game design foundations and can fluently discuss the modern 3D Action Game market
  • Have shipped 1 or more AAA action titles in a game or game design role, with a preference towards systems and content designers using Unity technology.
  • Excellent documentation, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to explain a design effectively to multiple stakeholders and maintain communication during its development.
  • Ability to maintain focus and self-motivation towards the current project goals.

Bonus Points For:

  • 3 or more years of level design experience, including at least 1 console title
  • Resume examples of work with Unity codebase and architecture
  • Live near or be able to relocate to Frisco, Texas
  • Experience with developing and expanding games after initial release
  • Experience working in small, rapid development environments
  • Prior leadership experience
